Beechworth's historic wine region's small vineyards produce excellent wines, the first vines were planted in 1856 and the first wine shop was opened ten years later.
The mineral rich hills around Beechworth are home to more than two dozen vineyards that are tended by winegrowing families. The hillside winegrowing region contains a range of altitudes and different topographical aspects that allows for the premium production of several grape varieties.
Some of Australia's best chardonnay is grown in Beechworth by boutique growers – the most acclaimed being giaconda, but the region also produces renowned pinot noir and other cool-climate varietals.
Guests can travel further afield to Milawa from Beechworth (about 15 minutes from Amulet and Indigo Wines) and enjoy: Milawa Cheese Company, Wood Park Wines, Milawa Mustards, Milawa Olive Shop, Brown Brothers, Chrismont Wines, Ciavarella Oxley Estate Winery, Rose Hill, Gehrig Wines and Sam Miranda.
