Originally known as Bowden Lane, Highlander Lane was renamed in the mid-nineteenth century after Flinders Street's Royal Highlander Hotel. Lined with overhanging trees and lush planter boxes, the verdant laneway is home to the famous Rutherglen House, one of just a handful of standalone houses in the city, as well as the Highlander Bar – Melbourne's only Scottish watering hole. Take a stroll and enjoy a moment of leafy calm in the busy financial district, or pop into the Highlander Bar for haggis balls and a range of whiskies that'll knock your socks off.Content: Visit Victoria
