In 1945, Mr Fen Woodburn planted 1,406 trees along the Goulburn Valley Highway as a tribute to his son. Calder Woodburn died while serving in France with the Royal Australian Air Force.
In years to come, Fen planted more trees, now totalling 2,457, uniquely all trees are a Eucalyptus species. The Avenue also serves as a memorial to those that lost their lives during World War II. Memorial name plates are affixed to 110 of the trees.
