Cloudehill is a garden at the top of the Dandenongs just a minute’s drive from Olinda, and internationally famous for garden rooms overflowing with flowers and magnificent art work all year round.
Cloudehill is a maze of some 25 garden compartments divided by stone walls and hedges. They include Australia’s finest summer borders, peony gardens, a spring shrub walk, bluebell woodlands, extensive bulb meadows, and a ‘green theatre’ (where Shakespeare is staged on summery twilight evenings). No-matter which season you visit several garden rooms will be at their peak.
Deep volcanic soil and moist mild weather allow plants to reach majestic proportions. The weeping Japanese maples at the heart of the garden are but two examples. These glorious trees are of serious world significance. Imported from the legendary Yokohama Nursery in Japan they have been growing on the property since 1928.
The Diggers Club operates Cloudehill’s nursery, stocking heritage seeds and mature trees, also many of the plants to be found in the gardens. Allow time to browse. Finally, Seasons at Cloudehill Restaurant nestles into the top of the gardens and provides a unique dining experience using freshest local produce. Its relaxed ambiance complements views into the garden.
Diggers Club Members and children under 16 years old free entry, visitors $10.
