Fast and slow

If you want to get the heart rate pumping, follow one of the many trails on horseback. Continue the adrenaline buzz by scaling rugged rock-faces in Wombat State Forest or the 300-metre gorge in Lerderderg State Park.

Slow it down with a round on one of the region's golf courses or enjoy a spot of fishing in the local rivers, streams and reservoirs, all brimming with trout and blackfish. Looking for a guaranteed catch? Take the kids to the local trout farm where you'll leave with fish for dinner.

Bush trails

Walk the tracks and trails through the region's spectacular surrounds, from misty Trentham Falls to the volcanic crater of Mount Franklin and the eerie dormant volcano that is Hanging Rock.

Look out for gold mining relics on a stroll through Hepburn Regional Park, watch out for native wildlife on a hike up Mount Piper, or climb up to the Memorial Cross pinnacle in the Macedon Regional Park.

Fun on two wheels

With long-distance trails, village rides and mountain bike tracks available, there's plenty on offer for every kind of cyclist.

Take a white-knuckle mountain bike ride through rugged bushland in the Macedon Regional Park. Cruise from Woodend to Trentham on the Three Town Scenic Route or hit the Goldfields Track, the 210-kilometre trail that takes in Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and Creswick.
