Mountains and mysteries
Climb to the top of Mount Macedon, one of the highest peaks in the range, and take in magnificent views from the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross and the Camels Hump lookout. Monument Hill in Kilmore also offers sweeping views across the surrounding region.
Just outside of Woodend is Hanging Rock, scene of the famous book and film Picnic at Hanging Rock. Explore the unique rock formations and settle in for a picnic of your own. Source gourmet local goods from regional farmers' markets, Daylesford Picnic Boxes and Piper St Food Store in Kyneton.
Blooming great trails
Enjoy a short walk through native bushland to the stunning Trentham Falls, where you can watch the water cascade 32 metres over ancient basalt columns.
Around the region, spring is full of new buds and brightly coloured blooms. Wander the botanic gardens in Kyneton and Malmsbury, and in Daylesford catch sunset from the tranquil surrounds of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens. Azaleas, peonies and rhododendrons are a delight at Forest Glade Gardens.
The Goldfields Track is ideal for a scenic walk or cycle, with lots of wildflowers in spring, or drive the Consortium Botanicas flower farm trail.
