The Best of Times - The Worst of Times Charles Dickens Women

Dudley House, 60 View Street, Bendigo, Victoria, 3550
29 May - 04 Jun 2019

Charles Dickens' women represent the best and the worst of his character and his fraught relationships with the fairer sex. The over four hundred women represented in his novels represent the best, the most endearing, the most hilarious, the most intriguing, the most malevolent. They represent the contradictions in human character, from the icily glittering star Estella in Great Expectations to the resilient Sissy Jupe in Hard times.

The Best of Times - The Worst of Times Charles Dickens Women exhibition brings over a dozen of his female characters to life in original clothing of the era, spanning several decades of the 19th century. A special exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the passing of the immortal novelist in 1870.

The exhibition is curated by Dressing Australia whose Jane Austen - Be Persuaded and Women of Empire exhibitions have been seen by hundreds of thousands of people in Australia as well as overseas.
