Gather your family and join the Bendigo Joss House Temple on Sunday 9 February 2020 as they celebrate Chinese New Year with a traditional Lantern Festival and begin the Year of the Metal Rat surrounded by beautiful feature lanterns.
The Rat is the first sign from the 12 animal cycle of the Chinese Zodiac and the Year of the Rat is therefore considered a year of new beginnings and renewals.
Visitors will be treated to performances by the Chinese Association Lion Team and Plum Blossom dancers. Bendigo Joss House Temple tours, tea tastings and Chinese calligraphy will also be available on the evening.
The lanterns, which will be on display throughout the evening, have been specially decorated by children from the Dr Harry Little Preschool and will look spectacular against the red backdrop of the Bendigo Joss House Temple.
Traditionally a visit to a Joss House during Chinese New Year is a special event that involves presenting food and donations to the gods, there is also plenty of incense burnt.
Gates open at 6:30pm and the festivities will take place from 7:00pm onwards, gold coin donations appreciated.
