Hamilton Art Gallery holds an extensive collection of European and Australian paintings, prints and decorative arts from the 1700s to the present. Established in 1961, the gallery actively collects Australian work and today it holds an impressive collection of Australian paintings ranging from colonial works by Nicholas Chevalier and S.T. Gill through to work by influential artists Howard Arkley and Andrew Sibley.
Paintings from Hamilton explores this collection offering a survey of work that considering the various ways artists use this medium. From oils, acrylics, watercolours, gauche and ink these works explore the landscape, flora, architecture, portraits, contemporary culture and our relationship to the world around us.
