Owner of Phillip Island Winery, Misha Say is on a constant mission for improvement – whether it's the food and wine itself or the winery's stunning location. She's grateful for being able to bring together such a creative, driven team on Phillip Island.
'It's the great people and the team we've found down here, both professionally and personally,' says Misha. 'Living in such a beautiful and diverse environment helps you harness creative ability, and offers so much inspiration.'
Here are a few of Misha's favourite spots on Phillip Island and nearby Gippsland.
1. Kongwak Market
This quirky little market in the small Gippsland town of Kongwak is, according to Misha, the 'best Sunday market around'.
'There's vintage finds, plants, furniture, clothes and the best food. Always live music and always such great chats with the locals as you wander.'
2. The Westernport Hotel
San Remo's Westernport Hotel hosts a heap of live music gigs each year, from The Jungle Giants and Lime Cordiale to James Reyne and Pete Murray, plus plenty of up-and-coming and local artists.
'It's directly across the road from the beach, with the coldest beer in town and the best parma. You can't go wrong,' Misha says.
3. Churchill Island
This tiny island off Phillip island is one of Misha's family favourites. It's a working heritage farm, with milking demonstrations, cattle dog shows and animal feedings. It's sure to give the kids a great day out. Fitness enthusiasts can bike or run around the whole island in around half an hour, and there's a cafe, beautiful gardens and views in every direction to add to the appeal.
4. San Remo jetty
Misha recommends popping down to the jetty in the charming fishing village of San Remo. Watch the daily pelican feeding at 11am, and spot giant stingrays as they glide through the water.
At high tide, grab your fishing rod and try catching a squid for dinner. No luck? Misha's tip is to head over to Bass Straight Direct in Newhaven for some amazing locally caught seafood to take home. Newhaven is one of the last few operating fishing ports in Victoria.
5. The Store
Located on a gorgeous farm in Ventnor on Phillip Island, The Store is where Misha goes for her coffee fix – and to pick up fresh local produce, hard-to-find pantry ingredients, sourdough and gorgeous giftware.
