Overview

Set your sights further on your next getaway and discover a new pocket of Victoria.

Tucked along the mighty Murray River, picturesque border town Yarrawonga may seem far-flung, but that’s part of its appeal. Immerse yourself in the tranquil lakeside setting, and explore the region’s attractions – some world-famous, others unexpected – on a series of easy day trips.

Indulge in world-class Rutherglen wine and local gourmet produce. Hit a championship golf course, relax on sunset lake walks, and get your camera ready for the region's diverse fauna and flora – including a prickly pear or two.

This itinerary is a six-to-seven day round trip from Melbourne. Allow 3.5 hours for the drive up the Hume Freeway from Melbourne to Yarrawonga, plus ample time for lunch and rest stops.

Day seven

Say a fond farewell to Yarrawonga after a final lakeside stroll and a bite to eat. Set out along the Hume with your boot full of local produce – stopping for extra wine to take home, as required.
