Snow season 2020
Snow season 2020 is on now. Strict capacity limits are in place, so things are a bit different this year. You must book ahead - even if you're just visiting for the day. Make sure you have booked resort entry, lift passes, and accommodation if you plan to stay the night. COVID-19 restrictions apply, which means physical distancing is in place on the slopes and throughout snow villages. Secure all the elements of your trip before you go and consider booking for mid-week or off-peak times. Plan ahead. Be safe. Be kind and enjoy the snow. Find out everything you need to 'snow' before you hit the mountain. Check resort websites and stay up to date with the latest advice on Victoria's travel restrictions from DHHS.
Family trips to the snow
From short trips to week-long holidays in the mountains, Victoria's snowfields are a great place for the whole family.
Get the kids into the car and head towards Victoria's snowfields for a day to remember. Start a snowball fight, build a snowman together, or race each other downhill on toboggans. Victoria's snow resorts come with designated snow play areas and many are conveniently located next to car parks, so you can drive to within a few metres of the snow. With resorts like Mt Baw Baw, Lake Mountain, Mt Stirling and Mt Buller so close to Melbourne you can enjoy a day in the snow and still be back in time for dinner. For safety reasons, use only moulded plastic toboggans, stay on tobogganing slopes, and remember that it is an offence to ride toboggans headfirst.
Whether you're after the adrenalin rush of a downhill run, the bumps and jumps of terrain parks, or just some time on the mountain exploring, snow sports can be enjoyed by the whole family in a safe and healthy setting. With downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, snow shoeing and snow tubing, as well as lot of fun activities on offer, there's no better way to keep the kids entertained and excited this winter.
It's easier than ever for families to take a snow holiday with an array of packages to pick from and plenty of family-friendly resorts to visit. Choose from a wide range of family-friendly accommodation, from self-catering apartments to fully catered hotels and lodges.
Snow sports schools have programs for all ages and all ability levels. At larger resorts, there are creche facilities for young families as well as specialist day and half-day ski school programs for kids.
