Grab your ski gear along with the trusty family toboggans and make your way to the sub alpine climes of Mount Buffalo for a dose of snow play, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. Declared a national park in 1898, Mount Buffalo National Park covers the whole sub-alpine plateau and much of the surrounding foothills.
All in the family
Enjoy family friendly tobogganing and snow play in two separate areas. Dingo Dell is about 30 kilometres from Porepunkah and features a cafe, visitor centre, ski school, toboggan slope and ample room for snow play. Cresta Valley lies 3 kilometres further up the road and has toboggan runs, groomed and un-groomed cross country ski trails and toilets.
Wind your way along 10 kilometres of marked ski trails, through gently undulating snow plains and snow gum woodlands – the ideal terrain for all standards of cross-country skiers. Looking to go further? Explore over 20 kilometres of remote, unmarked trails or test yourself with some off-track backcountry ski touring.
Why not try something new? Get the skills you need to navigate through the Alpine wilderness at the Mt Buffalo Ski School or on a local tour. Enjoy a snow shoe shuffle, get cross country tips from the experts, or sign up for a beginners class and hit the slopes.
Rustle up some billy tea and rug up for a snow-white weekend of camping in a spectacular boulder strewn landscape. Mount Buffalo National Park offers visitors a winter snow camping experience at two locations. Pitch your tent near the water at the scenic Lake Catani Campground or go bush with a night at the remote Mount McLeod camp area.
